Honoring Spiritual Practices in Interior Design

Designing for Houston’s diverse communities often means embracing the spiritual practices that define their lives. One memorable project involved working with a Hindu family who needed spaces that respected their spiritual traditions. This included ensuring prayer mats (Pooja Aasan) faced east and designing dedicated areas for their deities. By blending their cultural and spiritual requirements with modern design, we created a home that was both functional and deeply meaningful.

Another family taught me how important it is to incorporate elements that align with their daily rituals, such as natural light in meditation areas or spaces for storing sacred items. Designing with these considerations in mind ensures that the home isn’t just a place to live—it’s a sanctuary for honoring their beliefs and practices.
